Glucose testing

At-home glucose testing

SmartSensor Telemed

  • High levels of usability against a demanding target
  • A crucial test for early diagnosis of diabetes

There are a number of lifestyle factors that will predispose people to develop diabetes; these allow doctors to identify people at risk, they would then normally suggest an oral glucose tolerance test, which means a day off work and several hours in the surgery or clinic.

SmartSensor Telemed have a neat technology that allows at-home oral glucose tolerance testing, a crucial first step in the early diagnosis of diabetes. However, this means the entire test has to be completed correctly by just about anyone, ideally with no external assistance – that is quite a demanding usability target.

Along with Firsthand Experience, I helped to test and develop the usability of this revolutionary device. We worked through 6 rounds of careful prototype development and testing, culminating in a final test with over 50 people both at home and in testing facilities. We achieved incredibly high levels of usability, which subsequent independent testing has verified.

Much of the detail of this product is still confidential but it is now in the final phases of development and I hope to be able to tell you more soon.

Recently I've been working with another company who are seeking to develop a disposable colonoscope, but that's about as much as I can say.
